GARAGE TOUR

In the urban expanse of Singapore, where space is a premium, Jansen Tan has shaped a home around his automotive pursuits. A former national cyclist and Formula Drift Asia driver, Tan's reverence for car culture is evident in the structure he inhabits.

A Foundation for Obsession

The ground level of the Garage House functions as both workshop and sanctuary. This dedicated space accommodates a diverse collection. Vehicles include a Porsche 992 GT3, an RWB-built 964, a 911 Safari, a Toyota AE86, a Volkswagen Thing, and a Nissan Silvia S15.

Each dimension of this area reflects a deliberate design for precision and utility, echoing autohaus, A garage workshop built for racers where a serious collection and a highly functional workspace coexist within a carefully considered environment. Tools and equipment are arranged for accessibility, supporting ongoing projects and maintenance.

The Collection Below

Within the polished concrete expanse, the vehicles reside. A red RWB Porsche 911 stands alongside a classic red Toyota AE86. A white Volkswagen Thing occupies a car lift, poised for attention. This arrangement allows for both display and active restoration.

Life Above the Workshop

Above the garage floor, a floating glass-box office provides a vantage point. From this elevated position, the cars below are visible, integrated into the daily routine, similar to a Boston home with a garage designed to be in view from the office, or a garage in Australia with a loft that has views to the car collection below.

The upper levels of the residence contain the living spaces, designed to support a dynamic family life. This vertical integration allows for a constant connection to the automotive heart of the home.

Spaces for Creation and Connection

Tan spends considerable time in the garage, often accompanied by his children. The space transcends a mere storage area; it is a place for work, for restoration, and for shared experiences. Here, the lines between hobby, craft, and family life blur. The Garage House stands as an example of a space where personal obsessions are not confined, but rather woven into the fabric of daily existence.
